Choosing school management software in Bangladesh: what actually matters
Most comparison checklists are written for a different country. Here are the three questions that decide whether a system will fit an institution here.
Start with the details a foreign system gets wrong
A demo will always look good. What decides whether software survives its first term is a handful of small things that no feature list mentions: whether the weekly holiday can be Friday and Saturday, whether dates read day-first, whether you can define your own GPA bands and your own pass rule, and whether a report card will print in Bangla or Arabic with the right numerals.
Ask to see each of those in the demo rather than taking them on trust. A system that marks your whole institution absent two days a week, or that prints 07/31/2026 on a certificate, will be fought with daily for as long as you keep it.
Ask what happens to your data when you leave
Every vendor is easy to join. The question worth asking in the first meeting is the exit one: can you export your students, guardians, invoices, payments and attendance log yourself, to a format you can open, without asking permission and without a fee?
If the answer is a support ticket, you are not buying software — you are renting access to your own records. The ability to leave is also the only thing that keeps the relationship honest afterwards.
Be suspicious of what is not on the price list
A published price list is itself a signal. If every enquiry ends in "contact us for a quote", the price depends on how much the vendor thinks you can pay, and a governing body will have nothing to approve.
Then look for the things that are not priced at all. A commission on the fees you collect, a per-transaction cut, a charge per document printed, a setup fee that appears after the decision — any of these can quietly cost more over a year than the subscription does.
Questions people ask
How much should school management software cost in Bangladesh?
Expect a per-student or per-band monthly subscription rather than a single licence fee. iSkooll's own bands start at ৳990 a month and are published in full; whatever you choose, insist on seeing the whole list rather than one quoted figure.
Do we need internet at the institution?
For browser-based systems, yes, while you are working. Anything already saved stays saved, but marking a register or issuing a receipt needs a connection at that moment. Ask about this before assuming an offline mode exists.
How long does it take to move from Excel?
The import itself is usually the short part — a well-built importer validates your spreadsheet and reports what it would change before writing anything. The longer part is agreeing your class ladder, fee types and grading rules, which is work you would have to do on paper anyway.
